Jam packed day

I worked my behind off yesterday to burn off some calories. I did my 5K virtual walk on a trail close to my house but, I was not wise to listen to advise and went on the hottest part of the day. It was soooooooo burning hot even with some shade. It slowed me way way down. I was proud that I finished it though even if it did take me an hour.
I then was so burning hot that I went to the pool and WOW it felt so wonderful!!! My family and I spent like two or three hours there enjoying the cool water and for the first time many neighbors who came down. I got to talk to some cool new neighbors. I paid hard for my day in the sun though with a blazing hot burnt face and arms and chest. Ouch. I learned that for me vasaline was a life savor--quickly took away pain but I had to cover up since it was oily.
Anyway cooked a new recipe and turned out so tasty. I loved it.

We then enjoyed some tv. I went to relax in my room in front of the fan and watch some netflix shows. All in all it was a great day and continued into today when I weighed myself and see that I have burned off 2lbs of the 3lbs I gained from my birthday. whoo hooo.

lost 15lbs. so far current weight: 200

Making choices

I have found that with getting healthier or any goal it has helped to have a plan for each day. When I have a plan I am much less likely to get distracted by random interuptions or temptations. I still am tempted--believe me however, I have learned that less really is more. For example, studies have shown that people are more likely to look around at a store that has a very wide selection of items but, more likely to buy from a store that gives fewer selection of items. I find I am the type of person who likes a lot of choices but, I do not make the best decisions or fast decisions with a lot of choices therefore, I have been able to use that knowledge and limits the choices I give myself to make decision making easier and healthier. I used this on fourth of July by not giving myself the excuse of eat and drink what you want because it is a holiday instead I ate a lot of healthy watermelon (was wonderful) and drank tea instead of the tempting soda. I did allow myself to choose to eat a piece of my daughters chocolate cake she made but, I went back to my healthy foods after and did not stuff myself. I had planned ahead of time what to do because I knew the food would be an issue.

Another part of my planning was to make sure I did not sit around during the holiday eating so I purposely brought outdoor balls etc... to play around and be active. We made up our own games which was fun (especially since my mom could play with us) We played kickball frisbee, and orange cone volleyball. I had a lot of fun and we all got some exercise. I have now made a plan to walk or run a 5K at the end of July and The Run 4 change 5K in October for Children affected by Aids in South Africa (see above flyer to get in on the runs) www.run4change.com and the free run is at www.sparkpeople.com

Get Healthy and connect with others

photo is copyright @ Kim Shay. 2012
I give permission to share photo only if you give me credit for it by name.

This is me with no makeup, wet hair, and baggy around the house clothes. Gorgeous huh? Not. lol. I am showing this picture because it is part of what my blog is all about. People are always saying "if I can do it you can"! I hate that saying because we are all different and have our issues to deal with. I created this blog to share with people my failures and successes with trying to live a healthier life (not just saying it but doing it), do what I can to be better to the world around me, stay spiritually connected and connect and relate with others. I love the arts and writing and expressions of people and I plan on having a wide variety of ways of showing my days and ups and downs. I encourage anyone who comes across this blog to subscribe to it and share it with others. I could use all the support I can and I would also LOVE to learn about you and travel in your adventures whether good or bad as well. I hope through this process I will learn to enjoy pictures of myself more and gain confidence as well as connect with many new people. Well.....here we go.
